hello im new and have qs

Postby Calamaistr » Thu Mar 17, 2016 6:05 pm

Have played this game a few times for a few minutes because didnt have too much time.
I realy like the graphics they are top notch, also love the prospect of ultima-onlineish job-system xp rather than the onedimensional character level snorefest most modern clueless mmo's have. I have no interest in meta nor walkthroughs but i do have a few qs.

Last time i was on i walked at a cow after figuring out how to craft an axe and tried to steal his hair because i reasoned i might need it to make a bowstring (if thats incorrect feel free to educate me, im just playing by association and logic heh, i take it thats what this game runs on anyway.) Im planning on being a stealthy archer so yeah..

Instead of getting away with the cows trump toupet i ended up laying on my belly with stars above my head, after waiting for a while i just logged out because i didnt know how to snap out of that.

Was i dead? It looked like i was just knocked unconcious but waiting didnt wake me up.

Also where can i find a proper hub/town to have some sort of a base of operations or am i expected to build my own right away? I hope not since a town made out of twigs probably wont become a lively one.

Thanks for the answers in advance!!

Ok first no you were not dead. Second Yes there are towns many of them. You should contact Robben on the New Brodgar thread. New Brodgar is a hub town that is generally very kind to new players.

The hair is used to study and gain experience point.
Cows do not like their hair taken, they will knock you out maybe.
You will wake up after a time, it is not very short but not too long.
You must build your own base. Trust no one.
Stealth archer is maybe not a thing.

Yes, you were simply knocked out. You character will get back up in a minute or so.

Just so you understand, i'll explain the health system to you.

There are three health bars:

1: SHP (Soft Hit Points) These are your main health. Whenever you take damage, most of it is put here. When the cow (actually, it's only a cow when it's tamed. Currently it is an Arouchs.) attacked you, most of the damage was given to your SHP, and when SHP hits 0, your character loses consciousness. SHP heals automatically over time as long as you have atleast 8000 energy. (Eating foods replenish energy.)

2: HHP (Hard Hit Points) These are the more important health. These show how much abuse your character can take before death, and also are your max SHP. Most of the time when you are attacked, most of the damage goes to your SHP, however usually a small amount goes to your HHP too. (Usually 3-15) If you lose all your SHP and become knocked out, most animals will stop attacking you. However, Boars and Bears most notably, have a chance to keep attacking you while your down. You still take SHP and HHP damage, however, since you are knocked out, and have no SHP, that SHP damage that your being given goes straight to your HHP. If your HHP hits 0, your character will die. In order to heal HHP, you must heal the wounds that are given. All HHP you are missing are caused by your wounds. (can be shown in the Character Menu.) Some HHP wounds heal over time in the same way as SHP, some require you to treat them and wait, and some cannot be healed. (When a new wound is released, it sometimes doesn't have a way to be healed, although a way is usually made later.) Some wounds may have a special treatment that you can give them that instantly recovers some of them.

3. MHP (Max Hit Points) This represents your max HHP, which in turn also means your max SHP. In order to get more, you need to eat foods that give the stat Constitution, as Constitution represents your MHP, along as makes it you use less stamina when swimming. Every point in Constitution you get gives another 4 MHP.

Oh, and for that bow you wanted, you need to buy the skill Archery using LP gained from studying things, or discovering something for the first time. (Picking a branch or chipping a stone for the first time.) In order to get archery you also need the skill Hunting. The bow requires two Tree Boughs (Can be picked from certain trees.) and eight String. (String is not an item, it is a type of item. The easiest string to get is a Spindly Taproot. Upgrade your Exploration and eat foods that give Perception to begin seeing them. They are a root-like thing on the map, and can be picked via the screen or map.) Gather eight of them and the two boughs and execute the recipe for your bow. Also, in order to fire a bow effectively, you should get 10-15 Marksmanship.

Hope this helped.
Total misplay.

ahhhhh yeah that helps, ill try that out next time. I already did buy the archery and hunting skills.. and also nice to know you can tame.. wich does make me wonder what the skill cap is on this game?
Anyway, do i always need to craft arrows or can i shoot a bow without arrows for minimum damage too or something? Was wondering.. or is crafting arrows very easy?

Lastly; i noticed when i ...soft-died' i didnt lose my inventory, i take it when i 'hard-die' i do, so i also take it ill need to craft containers? Or is there a bank in a town, cause i remember reading something about people stealing stuff hehe.

Skill caps is 300/310/330 depending if you are a free/verify/subscribe player (see store on website).
Arrows are easy to craft, just needs some bones (can kill chickens, rabbits, etc.).
If you are ''hard dead'' as you puts, you will losing your character entirely. Not recommended to do.
There is no bank in this game. No NPCs except for animals.

I think you can check the wiki to answer some question. Probably to be easier than asking here for all things.

You'r taking things to close to other common mmos outta there.
Haven have NO npcs besides creatures (animals and now trolls), so don't expect to find a npc populated town like you do in many mmorpgs. Also, there are no computer generated towns on the game. Every building that's not a natural thing you see in the game was made by another player. So, when people refer to towns here, they refer to a group of players who organized together and built a town of player houses in a village claim they made so they can live together.

Beaing a "stealth archer" is not a thing, at least not the way u'r thinking about it. The skill stealth will NOT hide you from sight, neither make animals "ignore" you untill you straight jump in their faces. Stealth on H&H is used to craft some recipes, and to difficult tracking you if you leave crime scents. What stealth will do is make it harder to the tracker to find in wich direction you are. Just that! You'll not be "invisible" or something like that.
Being an archer MIGHT be a thing, but it's a bit hard. Any animal you shot, if on land, will instantly aggro on you and run towards you to knock you down. So, if you'r not sure about 1 hit killing stuff, and don't have high enough agility to be able to put up defenses against said animal while you aim to shot, be ready to get owned! And yes, a simple fox can own you if you have no armor and less than 30 agi.

About arrows, you need to craft em in order to shot. There are 2 kinds of arrows: stone and bone. As the name implies, stone arrows use stone as material, and bone arrows use bone as materials. To craft an arrow you need 1 material of the type, 1 string and 2 branches. I personally think it's better to make bone arrows, since every animal you slay and butcher will give you a bunch of bones.

It can be easy or it can be hard depending on what you are doing. Some player will kill you if they can see you. If you meet these player then it is easy to die. If you build a wall for yourself and hide all day, it is hard to die. It's all depending on how risky you are living.

No matter what you do though, death can always possible. If you cannot handle this fact maybe you will not have a happy game.
