Yes, you were simply knocked out. You character will get back up in a minute or so.
Just so you understand, i'll explain the health system to you.
There are three health bars:
1: SHP (Soft Hit Points) These are your main health. Whenever you take damage, most of it is put here. When the cow (actually, it's only a cow when it's tamed. Currently it is an Arouchs.) attacked you, most of the damage was given to your SHP, and when SHP hits 0, your character loses consciousness. SHP heals automatically over time as long as you have atleast 8000 energy. (Eating foods replenish energy.)
2: HHP (Hard Hit Points) These are the more important health. These show how much abuse your character can take before death, and also are your max SHP. Most of the time when you are attacked, most of the damage goes to your SHP, however usually a small amount goes to your HHP too. (Usually 3-15) If you lose all your SHP and become knocked out, most animals will stop attacking you. However, Boars and Bears most notably, have a chance to keep attacking you while your down. You still take SHP and HHP damage, however, since you are knocked out, and have no SHP, that SHP damage that your being given goes straight to your HHP. If your HHP hits 0, your character will die. In order to heal HHP, you must heal the wounds that are given. All HHP you are missing are caused by your wounds. (can be shown in the Character Menu.) Some HHP wounds heal over time in the same way as SHP, some require you to treat them and wait, and some cannot be healed. (When a new wound is released, it sometimes doesn't have a way to be healed, although a way is usually made later.) Some wounds may have a special treatment that you can give them that instantly recovers some of them.
3. MHP (Max Hit Points) This represents your max HHP, which in turn also means your max SHP. In order to get more, you need to eat foods that give the stat Constitution, as Constitution represents your MHP, along as makes it you use less stamina when swimming. Every point in Constitution you get gives another 4 MHP.
Oh, and for that bow you wanted, you need to buy the skill Archery using LP gained from studying things, or discovering something for the first time. (Picking a branch or chipping a stone for the first time.) In order to get archery you also need the skill Hunting. The bow requires two Tree Boughs (Can be picked from certain trees.) and eight String. (String is not an item, it is a type of item. The easiest string to get is a Spindly Taproot. Upgrade your Exploration and eat foods that give Perception to begin seeing them. They are a root-like thing on the map, and can be picked via the screen or map.) Gather eight of them and the two boughs and execute the recipe for your bow. Also, in order to fire a bow effectively, you should get 10-15 Marksmanship.
Hope this helped.
Total misplay.
