passage to black coal opened up while mining, safe now?

Postby fmfk86 » Mon Mar 28, 2016 9:12 am

Hi
I was mining without mine support and suddenly while removing one tile a passage of about 20 opened up that lead me to some black coal. The passage is never more than a single tile. Is it safe to mine the adjacent walls now? When it opened up there wasnt dust falling down anywhere.

I wish someone have saved my head from one when the tile was damn 70% covered with supports :(

Only full coverage counts, me thinks.

Center of the tile has to be in the radius

From what I've read it's 100% covered or there are risks.

There's a map somewhere of what can be mined safely from the position of the support. The tile doesn't have to be covered completely.

I supposed I'd have to work out the math, but could a square be 70% covered by the support and not have the center inside the arc? I mean, not with an arc of a perfect circle, at least. If it were an elliptical or parabolic curve of some sort, it would be possible.

That said, visuals can be misleading when projected. Better safe than sorry unless you're good with counting out tiles away from the nearest support.

The center wasn't covered. 2 or 3 supports were covering those 70%
