Healing brings down the energy bar, which doesn't affect fep gain. There are two discrete systems: hunger, and energy. Hunger has different levels of efficiency (300%, 200%, 100%, 90%, 50% and 10%) and heads towards lower efficiency levels whenever you eat food. It doesn't take long to recover from 50% to 90% hunger, but it takes a long time to go from 200% to 300%. To stop hunger going up as much when you eat, you can use a table and chair with "symbel" items, and also feast at a bonfire with friends with tables. Also, try to eat items with low hunger and higher stats, and additionally, eating different foods during a fep level gives you a variety bonus - reducing the amount of feps you need to level.
Energy is consumed when you do things, and is really just a way to require you to eat food. It doesn't affect fep gain at all. Doing things that drain the stamina bar and healing will drain energy over time.
If these systems seem complicated, don't worry too much and just build a table and pay attention to your fep bar when you eat. You'll understand it soon enough
