Random tamed horse?

So I found a random tamed horse in my travels and brought it back to my claim. I built a trough, and put some mushrooms and pears in it (I think the trough is at 25). Do I need to do anything special to get the horse to eat and get its pony power back up? Since it's not "my" horse will it even eat?

Your horse now. It'll eat from the trough. You probably want crops to feed them though.

Working on crops, thats why i used mushrooms and pears and stuff first. Although it fills the trough, aparently horses dont eat that. Cuz it just died of starvation

I'd also check if there is another hearthling on the horse. You might need to feed him too...

I left about 3 horses outside throughout my adventures, but I'm sure others have too
