If you aggro the animal and lose the battle (it KO's your hearthling), will the animal ever be tamable, or are you better off just killing it for the meat at that point? I aggro'd, fought it with one of my characters, and was KO'd. The animal "thrashes wildly" when trying to leash it, and it won't accept a clover. Will waiting a period of time resolve this?

Yes, waiting for a while/finding another will be the solution to your problems.
