How shield works?

How does a shield work? Like a combat shield? I keep getting attacked by badgers so I want to start defending myself.

A shield is used with "shield up" manevour to block striking sweeping and oppresive attacks (green yellow and red). You first need to learn it, i think you can learn it on ants, but you need to have it equiped when fighting for the combat discovery to pop up. It blocks for three times your melee combat value.

You can get "Shield Up" from ants if you fight them for long enough. Keep fighting for about 20 moves and you should see a combat discovery pop up. Only use this if the ant's defense is down, if it's not, then it's useless.

Should have pretty good chances of getting it, you can only discover a few things from ants.
