Quality cave living

So, I recently started playing again, and for reasons that are unimportant, I got thinking about how I could go about living down in a cave. Experimenting a little, I can build houses and hearthfires in caves, and likely a number of other things needed. So, this leads me to asking: is it possible to grow crops inside a cave, or is that something that can only be done aboveground? And to anyone who'd doing this, do you have any advice for a new potential dwarf?

Can only grow crops above ground.
Advice, get 20 agi 20 ua as fast as possible, so you can kill your little neighbors the bats... otherwise they'll show you who's boss !

So, pave the areas that I frequent. Gotcha.

Don't even need to run into multiple of them if the one just aggros you every time you try to get up and run away. (in hindsight, I probably should have just logged out and come back later to wait for the bat to despawn)

Yeah, just wear a Bat Wing and they'll accept you as one of their own.
