Roads, and some other questions

Postby y00 » Fri May 27, 2016 5:29 pm

Hi, i have been playing this game for 4 weeks now and have a few questions i cannot seem to find answers to.

1) there is to my knowledge no way to tell the game a road has been finished. Does that mean that if some stranger wants to extend my road that he can do so ? Or is that protected ?
2) Is it possible to make a road that starts in your base and then goes into your mine, and beyond to every level you opened up ? If so, how ?
3) can someone claim (and palisade) land that holds my mini milestones and if so, does that effectively block the road?
4) I read somewhere that you can extend your village into a mine but whenever i enter my mine it says i left the village, while the mine entrance is on the village plot. How can this be done?
5) wiki says you cannot claim localized resources yet i came across several instances where people built personal claims next to them and effectively blocked the resource that way...is that a bug ?
6) how important is finding clay above say 50 quality? is it a showstopper if you cannot find it or anyone willing to trade you some ?

Thx in advance for the answers.

I do not use the road, but I can say for these:

4. You can build some banner in the mine to extend this claim here.
5. At beginning of world you can claim these resource with personal claim. This was changed some time during world. Claimed resources stayed claimed. Right now this is only possible to do with village claim.
6. It will be harder to get higher quality good with lower quality clay. I do not know if this one is ''showstopper.'' It also should be not hard to find this clay or trade for it, I think.

1. Road is "finished" with a Roadsign/Milestone: after you've reached the desired point, you build a finishing roadsign/milestone there and Connect your last waypoint to it. Mini-milestones (waypoints) of the road are protected if starting/ending the road Milestone or Roadsign are on claimed land. One still can extend an unfinished road that starts on a claim, but will have to use Vandalism for that.

2. You can't make a road that goes through several ground/cave/mine levels.

3. A palisade can effectively stop you from traveling through (although you get the buff "Waylaid" that enables you travel to any end of the road from any of that road's waypoint). Also a road can be "blocked" by a stockpile etc. I'm fairly sure that a claimed waypoint won't stop you from travelling through, although, if your road is protected by your claim at any end, I think your waypoints can't be claimed.

As for 4-5, they've been answered mostly, just to clarify: you can extend your village claim on different levels with any claim-extending object (as long as you build it under/over your village claim), but until you do so,the grounds under/over your village claim on other levels are not considered your village, therefore the message of "leaving the village".

And about clay: there are 3 core resources in this game, all the others rely in their quality on those core resources. They are: clay, water, soil. You have high-q core - you have high-q everything. Clay makes kilns, smelters, treeplanter pots, so it's pretty much the main resource. Yes, you will have to get it as high as you can. I wouldn't say it's a showstopper to have low- or mid-q clay, but your show will be of corresponding quality.

Thx Hasta, that clarifies a lot.
About this core stuff:

What is considered low, and what mid to high, in this regard?
So far the best clay i found was around 40 average...have been searching at least 20x20 blocks on the map.
Water around 50 and soil likewise.

Well, for me (semi-hermit) q50 clay is good, q60 is great. Never seen higher. Major factions will have it 10-15 point higher I guess. Lower than q40 clay is very easy to come across. Not sure about water and soil 'cause I literally spawned between two q50 nodes of those so I haven't really bothered to search for more.

Anyways, I guess we should wait for some hardcore quality grinder for further insight. With your core resources around 40-50 you sould be wery well set for starters, it'll take a long time until your skills and derivative resources will require higher.

Similar situation for me. Playing in 3-4 man group and have access to ~q50 soil/water/clay.

4) you can build a banner within a certain range of a minehole ladder or the inside of a cave entrance if the minehole or the cave entrance outside is claimed by your village.

AFAIK you can only project the village claim into a cave and downward mineholes, not out or upward.
