dont understand the fight system at all

Postby joojoo1975 » Mon May 30, 2016 3:18 am

well sing I got my char higher up in the perc and exp stats I wanted to go into some caves and find some glimmermoss, but a bat is blocking my route.

looked at guides thought hmmm I got 27 ua they all talking u need something like 15-20, so I should be fine.

nope!

I don't understand this combat system at all. am I not supposed to stand there and fight? am I supposed to run and gun?

the biggest problem is I can keep mr bat from breaking through my defensive bar I put on screen, but I don't know when then to do punch, cause it seems my cards only stay there for like 3 seconds. my agility is 14 atm.

so, if it is the agility that's screwin me over, what # should I be sitting at for bats? for ants? for foxes?

would love to kill bats and foxes.

Quick recap of animal fighting system.

Each attack and block have color, sometimes multiple colors. You have to block attacks with same-colored block.
Animals do GREEN attack, gather Initiative Points (IPs), when they have 2 or more IPs they are able to do YELLOW attack, usually more dangerous.

In order to fight an animal properly you have to ensure you can block it's attacks with 1 block of corresponding color (basics are Quick Dodge for GREEN, Jump for YELLOW).
- If an animal breaks your single block with a single swipe and damages you - you're too weak, get more UA/MC skill (depending on the block you use). The weight of your block is too low compared to the weight of animal's attack.
- If you barely manage to put up blocks and can't attack without risking to get damaged through an unrefreshed/damaged block - you're too slow, get more AGI.

Basic combat deck for fighting bats is:
Quick Dodge (QD) x1
Jump x1
Punch x1
Tactics: put up QD, refresh it if it's damaged or fades soon. If you see the bat stacking IPs - put up Jump, refresh if it get damaged or fades soon.
Keep in mind that bats tend to run away from you when injured, so, unless you're riding a horse, no point in engaging outdoors random bats if you're not sure you can one-shot them.

I believe that 30-ish AGI and same UA is more than enough to spar with a Cavebat. A fox, on the other hand, is a very agile animal (although not very strong), so it's better to hunt them with a bow or lure them to fight badgers until you have 60+ AGI 60+ UA (educated guess here, for reasons below).

Sadly, I'm not aware of precise numbers one requires to bruce-lee the shit out of an animal, mainly because I myself, while hunting, never relied as much on blocks and combat moves as on a decent armorpiece. It's fairly easy to acquire some deflecting armor, and, if you can take animal's normal attacks "head-on" (they get completely deflected), you can focus on actively blocking only special attacks (yellow color, 2+ IP cost, so you always know when it's coming and what to block it with).

If you're determined to fight basic animals kung-fu style, all commando, I'm afraid you'll have to figure the exact numbers for yourself or rely on scarce info from wiki/forums.

20ish for bats, 30ish for foxes, 10 is enough for ants. You can go lower than these, but you need to understand the system. Practice vs ants... a lot. Bats are bad because their yellow attack is so damaging if they build up IP. Foxes are almost as bad, they just beat you down quickly, though I found you can kill one before it KO's you if you are aggressive.

But don't worry. This is all getting ready to change... maybe. It's the big project being worked on at the moment, so no idea what will come out of the box.
