Mammoth in Grasslands?

I just saw a mammoth strolling around the grassy biome, there's no mountain near enough for it to spawn, and afaik nobody can just lure it here.
What is the meaning of this. If mammoths spawn at grasslands, is it really rare? Or occurs enough so that hunting them can be done easily with out climbing a mountain?

Possibly that is a stone patch somewere in the area?

Could have spawned there in case Loftar dosn't check altitude...

It's a rather small island, I doubt it spawned on a speck of stone ground.
I was able to lure it into a trap, only to find out its spitting range is crazy. It's like a pong game, trying to hunt it, so I gave up.
But yeah still weird that it spawned there..

Was it this one? I discovered it here earlier today.



I keep finding them on this terrain, again no where near any mountains and no stone patches close by. This is the third one I've found on the same terrain, the first two were on a small island so could not have been lured there.

They seem to spawn near villages, i have seen like 4 already near my village on multiple different biomes, same goes to my friend. Mayve they just spawn on one biome and just wandered but it's more likely like i said.

I'm still not sure all specific biomes have been reported yet, but they do spawn in multiple areas.
