Melee vs. Unarmed

So, I'm trying to pick up on combat and have been fighting ants and bats now. So far the combat moves that are related to melee combat seem to be rather limited. I've tried finding lists and it really does seem like there's not a lot of melee vs the large list of unarmed weighted combat moves.
That said, is melee combat actually useful to put points into? Or should I just be sinking them into UA?

UA is useful for early game hunting, and pvp archery.
Melee far, far, far outclasses UA as soon as you get a sword and shield, and a few of the associated moves.

As soon as you get chop with a stone axe MC beats UA at damage even for fighting animals. You still want to get your UA up to break target defenses with the current system.

Next major update is a combat revamp, so don't get too comfortable with this system

ua>meele for hunting and pvp if you can play this game and have maxed stats.
meele>ua if you're low statted scrub

Yeah, I worded that post poorly, ozzy. I gotta quit posting when I'm half asleep. I meant that to read a few points in MC are good, but to still really just focus on UA. Definitely use the MC attacks and such once you get them. You only need to hit a target with no defenses up to do damage, and you don't need to invest any points to do that. They just help if a defense pops up before your attack goes off.

mc is more defensive imo because you have shield up with x3 weight and parry, which hits back after someone hits u, forcing em to set defense.
ua is more offensive because u dont have to use ip for punch which is very good for breaking defenses

Yeah, that's true. I didnt realize that you wrote only about damage in the previous post which was true aswell
