Tamed animal questions

I'm finally at the point where I've got a tamed sheep, and more sheep and some cows currently being tamed. My question is how do I take care of the sheep? sevenless's guide isn't very specific in explaining things, and the wiki for taming doesn't say much else.

Do I need to hook a tame animal to a hitching post? What is the Satiety level for?

As soon as you domesticated the animal it won't despawn, so you don't need to hitch it anymore.
Build a food trough and add fodder, keep animal within range of a filled trough (or it'll starve), keep offspring within similar range to a female that has given birth or they'll starve.
