Anybody actually play instruments? Is there any songs people have made in the game? Is there any use for instruments other than to play them? They seem pretty cool, I just can't play music on them.

Instruments are just that - musical instruments. To play music/make noise. And yes, you can play any melody you want (mind some limitations like 3 octaves range, the lag between pressing a button and hearing the sound etc).

You can play some very basic songs on them manually but for the most part the instruments are rather lacking.

I would suggest checking out this thread if you want to see some songs you could play yourself.

If you're interested in using a program to try and play some midi files check out my post here. There are a few videos I uploaded some time ago but it's been awhile since I've done a new one. They at least make for some good examples of what the music in this game could be capable of.
