Rabbits...

Why is it that when you are in the midst of chasing them if they run into a large shallow water area or through a swamp area that they keep their speed but us hearthlings have reduced speed? I understand why we slow down in the water and swamp, but by normal logic shouldn't they slow down too? Hell, why can rabbits into shallow water anyway? They're too small...
