Best way to hunt animals?

Postby datboi » Mon Jun 13, 2016 7:01 pm

I'm currently trying to get my mm and carpentry up to 15 to make a bow.

What hunting methods should I use? I want to hunt anything from deers to bears.
Note that I don't have experience with hunting in legacy HnH, so any tips are welcome.

Boats are your friend. Hunt from boat forever until you get a horse, then hunt from horse with cart.

Also, I'd suggest trading up to a better bow than q15, I'd suggest getting up to around 60-90 if you want any kind of *good* accuracy.

Didn't see this one before when searching, I'll give it a read.oh nvm I did see it before. I'm just wondering what the other methods are without the cliff method, and I'm guessing the cliff one still works as well?

How exactly do I hunt from a boat/horse? I'm guessing it's the swim away then swim back and shoot method with the boat?

Also, how trust worthy are trades, how do I trade with people and how much value such bow would have?

With boats, idea would be to block the animal with boats and then shoot them in a way similar to the 'pen' from the beginning guide (but much smaller).

You can see in apple for oranges section the traders, alternatively you could ask people living nearby. Price will depend on the village/trader and q you want so it's hard to tell. Q60 bow would basically be worthless for most villages now.

Aim, shoot, if dead, yay, if not, run away.

Usually I peruse the apples and oranges topics for trading posts. If they're legit, they'll have good comments. Always be suspicious of new topics.

Indeed, q60 is quite low now, but for a hermit/newb it would be much better than q15.

How exactly do you use the boats though? How much of them do you need?

One.

If the animal runs away it most likely won't attack you if you go after it on foot. Either chase it down and punch it to death or shoot it again.

with Boat, Shoot from boat, move to deep water, if first shot did not kill, move far enough away to deaggro, as soon as agro is lost move back in close and shoot again, rinse repeat, this method will keep most animals from fleeing when they cannot reach you.

Also as for trading , I suggest LadyGoo's Black Emporium. She has dealt with me extremely fairly, has always had reasonable prices. Downside to trading is having to actually travel to them, not always easy or safe.
