How to catch small animals?

Postby GGP » Sun Jun 19, 2016 7:25 am

I've been trying a lot and even when I corner the thing I can't figure out how to grab them and put them in my inventory, but I've seen people do it. How do I do it?

To catch rabbits, chickens and squirrels right click on the animal and you will automatically pursue it, once you have caught up to it it will appear in your inventory. For rabbits and squirrels you will need to use the second speed on your character, run speed.
Note that you need to have the available space in your inventory, rabbits and chickens take four slots, 2x2 and squirrels take up two spaces. (vertically)

Once you have caught it, right click it again in your inventory to bring up the 'wring neck', option to slaughter it. :)

I've included the links to the wiki and Sevenless' beginner guide which although both are outdated in places will still give you lots of help when starting out.

Rabbits and squirrels are quick little things. So, be prepared.

In addition to needing spaces as Amanda is says, I think you will need the ''hunting'' skill to pick these up. Also good for noting once you get some rabbit, you can make rabbit slipper shoe. These shoe will making you run some faster when right clicked to chase animal. Useful for catching.

I believe this is an urban legend. Does any conclusive proof of this exists (except "i put those on and caught a rabbit easier", 'cause, you know, rabbits do have their speed fluctuating)?

Click past rabbit with slipper on, notice speed. Click on rabbit and you go faster. I believe it is true.

Did all sorts of elaborate checks a month or two ago. Slippers or not, there was no difference. Was it changed in some latest update?

I just do some qualitative checks. I do not think it was change. Maybe I am inaccurate.

It does say they do on the wiki to be fair (bunny slippers increasing your speed) ... but I've never noticed a difference, the rabbits themselves have different speeds though for sure, some sprint and others just run. :)

I remember noticing that my character sometimes started to run faster without me switching to faster speed but then I realized it's result of chasing rabbit while wearing Bunny Slippers.
