Combat abilities for sword/shield

How do I learn abilities for sword/shield?
I have a sword and shield on, but I have only unarmed abilities

To make it easier, try to spam take aim, you need all the prerequisites (like IP required for that move) to learn it.

Oh, do I need to wear the gear to discover those combat abilities?

Yes, you must have the appropriate gear equipped AND meet all other requirements, ie IP.

well I killed 3 bats, one fox. All was done with fyresword & shield on + have stacked 70 IP. Haven't got a single discover.

Unfortunately, it is random when the chance to learn a skill pop up, at least as far as anyone can tell.
