Can't make tanning fluid?

So I have my tanning tub, I filled it about halfway with water, and then I started putting treebark in to make actual tanning fluid, but now it won't let me put any more bark in and it's still not tanning any hides? When I right click to put bark in, it just goes into stockpile mode.

Put more water in, and if it doesn't make the fluid try to put more bark in after

Okay, so I filled it all the way up with water, and it let me put 5 more pieces of bark in, but now it's not taking anymore and as far as I can tell, it hasn't made the fluid. (I've seen no change in appearance, I mean)

If it is full of bark and water then it must be fluid. Put in hide and wait, I think.

Oh, I see the timer thingy now, it's tanning. I thought the water was supposed to look darker when it was actual tanning fluid, though; that's what was throwing me off after I filled it completely.
