How to push quality mining

So I have a lv 5 minehole and what I did was I just mined and very long straight line until I came across higher q ore/rocks I literally just following the q, this worked well but seems that now no matter which way I go the quality is getting lower do I just push through or find a different spot completely or is there a better way to up quality more effectively? I got into the 100s in quality but seems like I can't find anything higher no matter which way I go so any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Also is there like a quality cap of ore that can be found? what's the highest quality reported? into the 200s? Or is mid 100s about all I'll find? Ok thanks again for taking to time to read!

You've reached the peak of that node if it begins to decrease in any direction, you'll have to find a better quality spot. Sometimes pushing through a direction does take you towards a spot where the node begins to increase again but not very often in my experience.

There's not really a cap as far as I know but I'm sure it only goes so high, I've heard of 200+ ore being found but have not heard about anything higher than that.

Awesome thanks for the reply I have one more question. So nodes are not limited to a specific resource? For instance I mined through several different types of stones and ores to reach the peak quality before it started lowering quality so is that considered one big node or several small ones?

That's correct, the quality node itself is separate from the type of ore/stone you're mining. You could then theoretically find a spot at q200 and find coal, iron, copper, etc. all around it at that quality if those ores happen to be there.
