Tips for mining?

Lay stone in caves still works like support beams? It is safe?

Laying stone is not a means of support it does nothing, you have to build a wood support (uses wood and 1x bar of common metal) or stone support (uses stone and 1x bar of hard metal)

That I know about support beams, but when I played long time ago, laying stone was one of early safe mining.

Try that now and your character may end up with a concussion

If you're referring to using the stone paving to mark areas you've found that are unstable, it does come with risks. Use with caution.

The downside is that paved tiles can't spawn forageables. All tiles in a cave count as "cave tile" and can spawn items, even mined out tiles.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Yeah now that I think about it maybe he meant he did that when mining with a snake pattern was a thing. But the way it works now is minesweeper, unstable tiles will be indicated by falling dust/debris after you mine the tile (meaning there is a tile around that one that will cause a cave in) and safe tiles will not have this falling debris (meaning it is safe to mine any tile around it).

I use stone piles to mark "rubble tiles."
