About horse breeding?

Postby Shyruban » Fri Aug 26, 2016 8:01 am

Hi...
I've decided to take on horse breeding as one of my ''specialties'' :)
I have questions about the mechanics of it all.

1 : Do I need as many males as there are females for all of them to be ''with foal'' ? I have 3 females and 2 males, the third female doesn't seem to get pregnant,
which would kind of defeat the purpose of studding, if all horses are monogamous :)

2 : Is there any proximity information somewhere? I know they are not really getting it on, so there has to be some sort of proximity rules.

3 : If I have a space that I use for my horses surrounded by palisade and divide it in 2, one side for general and one section to isolate 2 horses so only they breed together, will a roundpole
fence be enough to make sure only the 2 breed together?

4 : will 2 better horses always produce good offsprings, or is it like playing lotto?

5 : Not really breeding but, do feed-through feed through walls?

Thanx :)

1: Nope, one stallion can stud all your mares.

2: Unsure on how large an area you may be talking about but a 15 x 15 area that I have used is still not too large when breeding, it seems as long as the stallion has an unblocked path to the mare he will breed eventually.

3: Yes, round pole is sufficient.

4: Unsure if there is any RNG but I suspect there is.

5: Yes, a feed trough can be placed outside a wall and as long as the pen you are using to hold your livestock is fully within the area of effect of the trough your livestock will feed from the trough

The stats of the offspring are based on the average of the parents and then given some random modifiers. There is a general upward trend on average, but you usually have to prioritize some stats over others to make meaningful progress.
