How do I get string?

I know it's a dumb question. But how do I get string for the first time? All the methods I find on the wiki allready required I've gotten one string...

Get foraging, raise your exploration to 10 and you should find a ton. Or get farming and find some abandoned flax, hemp plants.

By foraging you can get easily two different strings. If not by foraging you can try farming flax, hemp or straw. The easiest way for me (since I hunted a lot) is making hide straps out of dried animal hides. Hide strap is also a string.

Your exploration in conjunction with perception increase the stuff you can find (and forage) in the world....with 5 exploration =>Exp*Per = 5*10 = 150 you should start to see taproot and nettles, both can be used as strings....some highest forageables require over 1000 Exp*Per.

It's been a few years since I last playied, so I did not remeber much on how the game works...

Just a reminder that most questions can be answered by the wiki: http://www.ringofbrodgar.com/. We're always willing to answer the most basic of questions here, but it might be faster to look them up. I'll note that there are legacy areas that should all be marked "Legacy" and new pages that should be up-to-date, but a lot are missing some details. (The wiki is looking for people that can at least add in information when they see it is missing, even if it isn't in a "pretty" format.)
