Question about thieving

Postby tom759345 » Wed Sep 14, 2016 2:03 pm

So last night I let my brother join my camp (working on moving to a place and settle). He kept on playing after I went to bed, and when I got back on today, our camp was full of stole goods. A cupboard full of random stuff that we can't use because we don't have the skills required and all the creates filled with random stuff we can't use.

I don't know much about thieving in this game, but I know that someone with the right skill can track your scents, but how does this work?
Should I make him stop this before someone track us down and raid us both, or is this no problem? Can someone help me learn more about this game and it's mechanigs?

PS: I'm not a good reader, so I don't understand or like to read long texts. Please don't send long guides.

Kick your brother's ass IRL.
Move to another settlement. Without your brother.
Don't take anything from stolen goods with you.

In 5 RL days you can let your brother join you in the new settlement.

So from what I understand. They can track their items, but they can also track him up to 5 days after stealing?

He let his brother join the camp last night, probably new char. If his char was new you don't have to worry. If he were stealing with criminal acts turned on and skill called theft, then people can track him, his hearthfire and stolen goods.

He probably took from unclaimed area or place with drained presence. Stealing requires theft skill and criminal acts enabled and he's a noob so that's unlikely.Even if it was stolen I wouldn't worry about it because it's likely an abandoned place if there's no walls around it, this late in the would.

I even stole shitloads of stuff from active players and nothing ever happened

Yes, if it was from an active claim

If your brother has "Outlaw" deuff then he committed a crime that keeps his character in the game world for the duration of scents. Scents will allow people to track him and his Hearthfire and summon Nidbanes to attempt killing him.
