Rafts, Wagons and Bulls, oh my?

Postby Artyom15 » Mon Sep 19, 2016 10:58 pm

So I have been asking a lot of questions lately because I plan a hardcore migration over the next few weeks. Get a nice wagon built, tame a bull, make a nice raft and just move out to the map edge. So I'm just gonna list off a bunch of questions.

1. Remember that old inventory interface we had for boats, carts and other things you could put containers in? Do wagons still have that, or does it rely on something else now?

2. Does the raft have a set period when you rebuild it like houses used to have or like claims have now, or can you just pop it up at the edge of a river, hop on, then take it down afterwards and move on without any waiting?

3. Can you fit a wagon and a bull onto a raft, or would I need to pull the wagon across and then go back for the bull?

4. This is more of an opinion question, but I am on the cusp of getting a mine-hole in my area. Would it be recommended to build small chests, large chests, or just move and use coffers or some other non-metal using container?

1. Yes, they still have the same inventory system.

2. No and it now only requires two pieces as well.

3. You have to do them one at a time.

4. Depends on how much stuff you actually have to move but I'd say large chests are a waste of whatever resources you might have just go for the small chest. Coffers aren't bad either for their cost.

Sweet. Just as a followup for Question 3 - if you unleash a tamed bull, will it stay still or how big of a risk of them running off are you taking by fording a river?

It'll move, but you can fence it in quickly and cheaply with some signs.

It might wander a bit but it won't go too far before you're back across the river going to grab it, if you wanted you could just release it from the wagon and leash it while you're moving the wagon across, it'll just sit there at the river trying to walk to you until you're back over but this would mean you'd have to disembark from the raft and drop the rope to unleash it again I believe, I'm not sure it's possible to put a leashed animal on the raft but I could be wrong.

Alright sweet. Now for one last, completely unrelated question. The percentages to get metal from an ore - is that with none of the metal refining skills, or with all of them?

If you're referring to the table on the wiki I'm fairly sure those percentages are without any of the skills that improve smelting chance, the way it works is that the ore mined by the person with the appropriate skills has its chances increased to become a metal.

Some people say that skills also matters when you put ore into smelters, but not sure about that.

Btw, I'm not sure how much items you have, but travelling by wagon is really slow. I'm not even sure if it's used for moving items when people have horses and carts or knarrs, and whole map has river connections. I'm not sure if it wouldn't be faster to find new place to settle and make couple of rounds with boat instead of messing up with wagon.

Figure out the route, build road (starting and ending in water) over the land parts?
