Stamina is really your Breath. Energy is your caloric reserve. It makes a lot of sense when you think of it in this way.
Hunger is just there to make binge-eating less effective. It's not really how hungry your character is. Your current Energy level is essentially how hungry you are (how badly you desire calories).
Also, Constitution makes you run and swim better. So Constitution should really be called Stamina. And Stamina, as mentioned, should really be called Breath (you expend it by working and regain it by resting and drinking).
And regaining breath takes Energy (calories), which makes sense. But Hunger isn't really how hungry you are, it should be called Appetite.
And Satiations are weird. They don't show how satiated you are but rather how un-satiated you are. For example if you are 100% satiated on Fish then you are not at all satiated on Fish. And if you're 36% satiated on Sausages then Sausages are only 36% effective. So perhaps Satiations should rather be called Cravings.
To sum up: Constitution is Stamina, Stamina is Breath, Energy is Caloric reserve, Satiations are Cravings and Hunger is not really hunger, you can safely ignore it, it's just there to piss off the min-maxers.
