Should I Pave?

Is it purely cosmetic or what? If I build a house without paving, will it decay? Do items decay slower on a paved ground?

Yes you should pave. It decreases stamina drain when you run, allows you to sprint on paved tiles, and reduces decay on everything set on it. Houses, containers, objects, everything. It also looks neat.

Should i pave or should i not....

Mmmm..i'm not sure that stuff on the claim will decay if not paved....i had a kin on the ground for long time, it never took damage...to me stuff under claim don't decay, no matter if paved or not....maybe someone can tell us if he had something that is decayed even if it was on a claim

1. Some terrains cannot be built on directly. You definitely need to pave forest areas.

2. Speed. Yeah, it makes getting around your camp easier as you can put it on "run" (speed 3) and move around with little stamina drain. If your base is large enough, just build some roads. The rest you're not going to want paved because it's for farmland or housing animals, etc.

I'm not aware of anything that decays as long as objects are on an active claim, paved or not. (Note a few exceptions like cupboards that will always decay outside.) If I recall correctly, jorb has said this may change in the future, but hasn't during world 8 or 9. (Buildings decaying on unpaved land even when under a claim was the normal behavior previously.)

Any other reason is purely aesthetic.

Perhaps they have a greater chance once the claim is gone...cause there are 2 things that need to decay, paved land and the item over them, untill the claim is active i haven't seen any decay.

P.S. If you live on grasslands...you don't need to pave

just for note - cupboards WILL decay eventually if left outside even on paved claimed area... Won't decay underground...
Also, not 100%, but someone (trusted, maybe it was MagicMan?) told me - decay hits only when stuff is "loaded on server" - you can build something - log out for months, and it will be destroyed once you logged in (if no one will cross your spot). So - if structure is not loaded - it is not decaying.

Yeah, my cabin from the start of the world finally decayed. I log in on that character every once in a while, and the cupboards are still standing there where I left them after the house finally blew up.

(Wish whoever had occupied the spot had replanted the seeds before running off with them all.)
