How does combat even work now?

Postby Artyom15 » Tue Sep 27, 2016 2:30 pm

I've tried a few times now. I have a bronze sword, shield, 40 UA, 40 MC, and 35 Agility and I can't even kill a mouflon with my sword - taming it is out of the question - simply because I don't get how this new system works. I've been waiting on a guide but... this is just crippling that I can't do anything but farm and forage at this point. Probably because I'm dumb so... if someone could explain the new system in dumbspeak, that'd be pretty great.

(I'm not that dumb, I just can't get the main ideas of how this works out of the patch-notes beyond that openings are a thing and that sheep fuck me up.)

The bigger opening you get on animal the more damage you do to it.
The bigger opening animal gets on you the more damage it does to you.
All damage has armor penetration now.
Stacking 1 color of opening is usually a smart idea rather than using different colors vs animals.

Is it even possible to kill a Boar with my skills now, or should I just go back to Bat Genocide for leather? Because I really do miss boar-hunting.

Check out last nights update. Hunting from a boat (cliff, other shore) should be more viable now with the game tracking mechanic. viewtopic.php?f=39&t=51029

Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Yeah its possible but probably more efficient to kill bats in giant cavern.

Yeah, just less effective on taninn but... Bark is cheap and I have lots of intestines if I want to make rot.

My question now is how to tame an animal. Because both times I've tried to tame a sheppo, it has KOed me.

If spamming chop wont do it get a friend or 2 and all spam attacks together of same color.
You still might get wounds but should at least get taming points this way.
Of course don't go overboard and not forget to press peace button.

So is it possible to solo-tame a Sheep or Auroch? Because I need a bull so I can migrate and... I guess that isn't going to happen now.

I also am wondering if it is still possible to solo-kill a Boar without armour.

Sorry for being dumb I guess - this new combat system doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

i guess that with this system and some armor, taming is easier than before, as it's possible to modulate better the damage done to the animal. Still, you need some basic armor, and don't forget that shields too gives a bit of armor now.
