Village Claims and Banners???

I just started a village and now can add banners to expend, wiki mentions that a banner adds a 60 x 60 tiles expansion to the village claim
but naturally it's BS, unless I haven't figured out something, you can only plant the banner on the existing claim or area covered by another banner,
which automatically wastes half the the surface of the banner, seeing half of it's influence ends up on existing claim.
I find that totally stupid really, I had spent time figuring out how to make a complex expansion to find out i have to rethink everything because of that and also end up with a few banners inside my palisade
Which i really didn't want. It would have been cool if simple things like that would have been explained. I would have placed my village idol in a different spot. because of the way
the wiki explains it, i figured that only the surface covered by banners had to overlap.
Please if I'm missing something, explain

Wiki is written by players and there is no guarantee that information is correct.

Test everything before you plan next time, there is no reason to be upset if something in the game is not the way you imagine.

If I remember correctly, you do indeed need to place banners under existing claim, but you can minimize amount of banners if you install them in a smart way. Think about minimizing overlapping. Use photoshop or more basic image editing software to make a plan.

Well i could figure that out, u put them on edge of existing claim but it still wastes half of the banner area of influence.

Well it's pretty obsvious that you must place it on existing claim...otherwhise one could place them anywhere outside the village...

I think OP didn't mean "anywhere". He thought you could place them without overlapping as long vertices of outer tiles touch.

Put the first banner on a corner of the initial vclaim, put the next on a corner (one of the two toward the sides of the vclaim) of the banner claim, continue zig-zag pattern with low overlap and close the gaps at the sides of the vclaim at the end.
