as there are no hhp in animals, grievous should not work in pve, dunnow if armor penetration does vs animals, but obviously works for toon.
Anyway, after some math, i came to the conclusion that if the last patch wanted to make players use different pieces of armor instead of one or two gigantic ones, it does not, in fact it may be better to not have at all some armor pieces. An example:
i have a 40ql winged helm + 40ql bronze armor. They are respectively 21/12 and 43/32 deflect/soak. If i wear those two, i can stand, before getting any damage, the equivalent of the sum between deflect and soak of the lower armor piece, *2, a solid 66 damage. As now, there are no better pants than leather ones and plate greaves, but let's put on the leather ones. At 35ql they are 6/8, the formula is now max damage= (6+8)*3, or 42 damage. So, if i add pants, i start getting damage from a 42 damage blow! Adding also a bat wing at 45ql, that is 4/4, and the max damage i can stand before getting wounds will be 8*4, or 32 damage...
If i did right the math, this is totally not what the devs wanted to do...
