Bleeding horse

So, a bear attacked my horse while i was riding it. Besides the fact that the horse fled and left me on foot, when i found him again he was bleeding. I jumped again on him, and in time he obviously ko'ed. I wonder if that's okay, and if there's a way to stop the horse bleed, so he won't ko in the middle of nowhere, eventually.
