Questions about beach junk

Postby SynthAura » Mon Oct 17, 2016 3:53 am

Is there an official name for the junk that washes up on beaches that players dropped in the water (I just refer to it as beach junk)? Also, is that junk that players dropped nearby, or is it not relative to location? For example, if I drop a pearl in the water on the north side of the map can it be foraged from beach junk at the south side of the map or can it only be foraged close to where it was dropped? Same question for when you fish up junk, is it relative to location of the dropped item?

It's pretty unknown how it works altogether, but my hypothesis is that it's local area, since when I cook Mussels for Pearls and dump them in the water, I pick Mussels from the beach trash move often for awhile. The reason this tells me it's local area is because albeit I dump a large amount in the water, no way could it even effect my pulls if it was global, but if it was local it would effect it, because Haven is pretty sparsely populated.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. I'd have to try to dig up some of the old posts on this from when it was added in, but a few things have been found from people on opposite sides of the map to each other. The amount you're dropping in the water could be a very small fractional percent in the list of items to wash ashore. That's another factor we don't know--how long do items persist on the list?

There may be a time spread factored in. I don't know. Any guesses on that would be pure speculation.

I mostly find sling bullets, or arrows from that. Once in a while I find something sueful. But I have not found any of my old items I threw into the water so someone else could find them... ya you know old lynx caps, bears capes, ect....

Beach trash piles pull items from the common item pool.
This was recently confirmed when a noble gentelman threw around 100 stacks of very high Q carrots and beets in the water, and people all around the world has managed to get their hands on it.
