Is there a way to achieve 60fps in your base/town?

Without having a monster PC? my specs are pretty average but i know this game is pretty hungry considering its in java and the dev team simply cant put much effort on optimization.

That being said, has anyone quantified exactly what makes frames drop so much? is it crops? full crates and or other types of storage? animals or something. Or just the total number of things being displayed on screen. If its something specific maybe i can try organizing that group of things far away.

While on the subject on frames, why does graphics options like antialias, shadows, etc that are very demanding in almost every game, have no difference whatsoever in this game, i get the exact same frame count if i enable or disable everything. Does it mean that everything is run by the CPU?

The performance is both CPU and GPU bound. Actually it's also bound by your network connection as well since a lot of things are loaded remotely... it all accumulates to a noticeable stuttering in certain situations.

Disable per-fragment lighting.
Disable shadows. (major FPS hit on some GPUs)
Disable antialising.
Disable flavor objects in the custom client of your choice (major FPS hit on some CPUs/GPUs)
Enable "simplified" crops.

Shadows etc are GPU bound so if you have a rather good GPU you won't notice the difference between disabling them.

Shadows makes the only noticeable change in fps on my computer, only 6 +- frames, still stuck on 40fps on my town, custom options given by mod clients doesnt seem to change frame count at all. Im not complaining or anything i get stable 30fps with everything on, but im way to used to 60fps or + when gaming. Not sure if 10 frames more are worth disabling the major impact that shadows have on the beauty of the game. So i was wondering if maybe i put my crops and trees a screen away from my town center of so, will i see some difference on my performance?.

Client performance should be worked on, a lot.
But I think it would require a lot of time as well.

Make sure you are using the 64-bit version of Java and not the 32-bit version. I get a 5-10 FPS increase with 64-bit.
