Hermit Taming

Postby jfw3661 » Fri Oct 21, 2016 2:16 pm

This may sound dumb, but how do you hermits tame animals ?

With my work schedule I can play daily for a couple hours but they are 24 hrs apart +/- . I have logged on to find my aurochs gone or loose. Is taming out of reach for me?
BTW, really loving this game.

Sadly, in your case a couple of undustries are out of reach.
Namely, steelmaking and animal taming (taming window comes around a couple of times tho, maybe you were just getting unlucky, or forgetting to hitch your animals back after giving them a beating?).

You can still trade for them. Animals are much more cheaper and easier to get now when you can teleport with them.

I knew steel making was out, so I am working more on the organic side of crafting such as farming, trees, clothing. I was sorta hoping to include animals (hides ect.)
Maybe in my future travels I will run into a market or someone willing to trade or sell.

Thanks Z, your help is always appreciated.

You get much better hides from wild animals anyways, however you wont have access to horses, wool, diary and jewelry without tamed livestock.
Which kinda cripples you a lot.

I suggest boiling up some pearls (2-5 would do), and trade for livestock at the Sevilla market. Create a thread in the trading section or join the skype conference listed in the Sevilla thread.

If you have a village with animals nearby you could leave a runestone somewhere on visible place asking nicely about a couple of animals any Q and leave your hs/skype/e-mail. There is a chance that person is nice and would give you them or trade cheaply. I got 2 cows and a bull for free 8-) .

Also, it is a good idea to use an alt for the trading manipulations just in case the person is not nice.

I have male/female of each animal type I can give you for free, will save a lot of work taming them, Only catch is you'll have to pick them up. I'm just west of the Sevillian Market. PM me if interested.

I also have crops of all different types and metals.. Whatever you need just ask as I currently have more than I can use.

I tried to time it so I could attempt a taming. I beat down a mouflon Saturday A.M. , Sunday Noon-ish, and Monday afternoon. Each time the animal was in his attack state, was beaten , withdrew, and re-lashed.
How many times does it need to submit? I read three times on wiki but that doesn't seem to hold true. Did I need to do something else besides? Was there a reset or something that might have reset the taming count?

I have tried taming several times and usually the second or third time that I need to tame the animal, it goes passive or just disappears. ( my timing was bad )

Do sheep, cows and horses have a different amount of times they need to be tamed?

Also, If I separate animals into different pens? do they each need their own feeder? What about water?

animals just need to be in radius of the feeder, fences are ignored

i re-leash all animals being tamed, just in case i leash the wrong one
