Quality for farming, and hunting

Postby Grigori_Rasputin » Wed Nov 02, 2016 3:29 am

1) It seems like over the last couple of weeks the rate of quality gain when farming has dropped dramatically. Even with test farming, and waiting 8 hours, I seem to be getting at best +2 on one trait paired with -1 on another. I say seem as I am modest hermit, so not doing a huge amount of planting. Has the formula for crop q raising changed, or am I just seeing patterns when it is really just a run of bad luck? My farming is higher than my highest crop q (110 farming vs max crop q of 96, with most crops being in the range of 50-60). Beehives covering the fields produce ~40q honey/wax if that is impacting.

2) I thought I read that wild animal quality was higher in unsettled areas. Is that the case? Because again (it seems, which is risky, small N of samples blah blah) wild animal q is lower where I am than when i settled. If it does decrease near settlements, does anyone have a feel for how far you need to travel to overcome this when hunting?

1. Get more fields in different locations. Crop Q changes every minimap or so, so having 2-3 field in opposite parts of your plot signigically increases your chances of getting +3 or higher procs. Plant a single corp and inspect it's Q. If you're not happy with the results, try your other fields. If they all are bad, wait for ~5 hours and try again.

2. I think that mechanic was in legacy.

2. yeah, that was a legacy thing.... think like w2/w3 legacy. I don't recall seeing variable level animals after w3. Animal qualities are on nodes like everything else now, so you might just be seeing that and you're on/near a low spot.

1. I had been waiting 8 hours and planting again, so it just suggests I have been having a run of bad luck rather than a systematic change to the rules. Thanks for clarifying. I hadn't thought about just moving over a mini map, so I will see if I can set up a second field area so I don't have to wait 5+ hours; that is a great idea.

2. Ah, I didn't realise animal had nodes, and I had got lazy recently and kept hunting in the same spot. I will try some different spots. Thanks very much.
