How do I target bats with archery?

I really can't figure this out. Google searches always turn up melee tutorials or "I just kill it with one shot" but I cannot for the life of me figure out where I have to click to actually target bats with a ranged attack.
If I click the entity my character aims somewhere completely different (presumably the tile 'behind' the bat model?) without the bat aggroing, but when I try and guess where the tile the back 'should' be on I still miss but the bat aggroes.

What exactly am I doing wrong here?

Stats are: 26 marksmanship, 26 dex, ~Q60 bow

You need aim to ground under bat.
