Do Animals need to have contact with Food Trough?

Postby DougRatmen » Mon Nov 21, 2016 4:24 am

So, me and a village mate were just wondering, if an animal is in the raidus of a Trough, but not in contact (IE theres a fence beween the trough and the animal) do they still eat form it?

Just a quick wonder, not to sure on how it works, but Im guessing as long as the animal is in the Trough raidus, it should be fine and eat form it.

Thanks!

P.S: Sorry about the bad spelling, if Im too confusing tell me and Ill explain in detail!

from what I can tell, the animal does Not need to have actual contact with the trough.

so you can either use the trough as part of your fence or just make sure that it's radius completely covers the animal's pen/yard

They do not need contact. They do need to be within the Trough radius to feed, when they want to feed.

From what little I've seen, Horses/Cows will not feed while they are mounted and/or hitched to something .

As long as there is something covering the ground tiles, like Grass, they can eat that. As long as you don't care about Q. Obviously, those tiles are very limited. Once the Trough(s) are empty and all tiles in their feeding radius is Dirt, they will begin to Starve and die .

If you care about Q (quality), your Fodder needs to be higher than any of their Q related stats.

My horses are all hitched and live underground with no grass tiles ... they all feed from the available trough, and incidentally, breed, just fine.
My bull also lives with them, again he feeds normally.

So long as there is a trough within range hitching the animals is not an issue.

The only problem with feeding that I have encountered was with a ram that I moved away from his original pen with the female, he wouldn't eat from the trough in the new enclosure, we joked that he missed his female, I gave him awhile but he wouldn't eat until I moved him back. I later culled the female and he wasn't affected, lol, so it has something to do with him not recognizing the new food trough, though others in that enclosure fed from it without any issues.
