Red onions, new wheat

I've gotten Red Onions and supplied some to my neighbors, so theres at least two villages (including my own) and one sizable settlement growing them. The allied village in question did get some wheat, but they forgot to check their tables and it sprouted on them.

Red Onions don't seem to unlock anything special though, they're just red.

Have you tried making food requiring Onions? I'd like to see the difference FEPs between Red Onion vs. Previous Onion.
