How do I kill ducks?

Run them over with a horse, of course.

Get a friend and surround them with your boats. Friend A will begin to chase said duck, while Friend B will conveniently be in the direction the duck is flying away to, and catch it.

Well, I was trying to sling them - but it doesn't quite do the job.

All you need to do is get between the duck and the water on a horse so that when you go to catch it it will fly away across the land, the horse will then catch up to it with np.
If you want one alive then the only way I've found to do that so far is with another player as stated by GamingRam and in the other thread, though there is nothing to do with them alive.

I have had no problem killing them with a sling, just make sure you scare them to land first... they disappear if they die over water.

not worth the effort get a knarr or horse or ranged weapon
