Breaking the world

Postby bryan2384 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 9:31 pm

As a new player, I've read about this happening. How does this mechanic work? Just curious, since I have no desire to partake in this.

Thanks!

I do not, but I recall someone saying that in one of the worlds, a certain faction broke the world?

Also, someone just posted something about they weren't planning on breaking the world...

I think he means wipe, the world will restart in a week - everyone have to start over.

But he says "break the world and dominate" ... which is consistent with what I've read here and there...

The world is far too large for someone to break and dominate it, unless its a group of people who use bots to boost their stats, but even so the area they can cover is very limited, nothing "world breaking" unless you strive to dominate with your kingdom too. But for a hermit like me I hardly ever interact with others and dont feel pressured by them at all.

If i'm not mistaken, World 8 had a mechanism by which the players could decide when to end the world. This resulted in one powerful faction ending the world after only 5 months and 22 days. Perhaps this is what you heard about?

The current server wipe however, is being caused by the developers rather than the players:
jorb wrote:This reset is motivated only in part by development needs. We have some changes that we want to make to the map generation, but the bigger thing is, partly, that we have accumulated a fair amount of significant changes -- kingdoms, combat, quests, &c -- that we would like to see playing out in a new world, and partly that we want a fresh start for the game, quite simply. We have not yet decided where to take future development, but seasons and object-controlled objects have both figured in our discussions. We have a general sense that a lot of the low-hanging development fruit has been picked, and that we would have to undertake some bigger project to significantly improve the game. Another thing we are considering is making the game available on Steam.
