Character development - a few tips for a new player

Hello guys. I've played HnH quite a lot (back in the days of the old game), that's my first time playing the new Haven however (Hafen? ). I've just created my character. Found some chickens, two squirrels (not sure if they're worth anything though). I'm constantly studying whatever I find (so far.. uh. A few dandelions and those pinecone-based crafted curio). I know if shouldn't eat random stuff, no idea what exactly to eat though.

I guess I'll try to develop my character into an explorer, unless there's something that pays off with more LP.

What should I eat (mostly to increase perception, I guess)? Anything I should look for? Which skills to learn? Which attributes to increase (exploration & survival)? Where should I look for curios? What should I aim for in the earlygame?

PS. Anything interesting in caves? Just found one, not sure if I should explore it deeper or just let it be.
