Server wipes are frequent?

I found the game some days ago. I were doing my first steps and learning features and now all my advances (really few in fact) has been lost with server wipe. I'm wondering if there is a way to keep playing with my previous char; I've been reading the forums and haven't found, even more I'm pretty sure there isn't.
If that's the case......I'll lost all the time invested in my char everytime a new world is released?

It took a year to wipe it this time, so no they're not particularly common. When it is reset you will lose your progress however.

Server wipes happen very rarely. Last world lasted for more than a year. And this will probably too.
Except lot of crashing and perhaps even lagging on the following days, as theres lot of players and some new stuff that might be buggy.

Feb 18th - Jan 7th. Almost, but still less than a year.

To note:

World 8 lasted about six months.
World 7 is still running (as the legacy Haven server).
World 6 lasted about two years.
World 5 lasted about 5 months (serious server errors caused massive data corruption)
World 4 last about six weeks (yes weeks) due to a flaw in game mechanics that was easier to just reset and replace said mechanic (glory to the bots that gave us curiosities)
world 3 lasted about nine months if memory serves.

Conclusion: Bad things can happen at any time. They usually don't, but this is the nature of playing a game that hasn't been "finalized."
