How hard are bats now?

I haven't fought them, just ran from them! At the very least I can say they don't leave a silly amount of damage on you like they did before. Or I just been lucky. ;o

you prolly just ran away before they made big enough openings in your def :V the trick to beat bat is to nuck them with punches before they stack IP and deal dmg to you with special atacks - other than that they are ez pray.

What skill/stat level would you recommend before taking on bats?

In W9 Even running I would have taken a lot of damage to my SHP as well as like 20 different sets of scrapes and cuts or whatever from bats.

*edit* Also I suppose this -was- before they changed combat mechanics starting in W9, which also might be it. I haven't really tried the new combat mechanics much except against a boar during the end of the world. Didn't have any clue what I was doing and got my butt kicked by something that was no real danger before. x3

Just use cave doors to kill bats. Get out of the cave to remove your openings, get in, punch, rinse and repeat.

Well I took down a bat with ~16 unarmed and ~25 agi/con/str. It was actually pretty easy, but I did take some HHP. Every bat did like 25 HHP damage to me, so I stopped after three. I feel like armor's going to be more important for fighting animals than it used to..

Yeah, if you don't use some exploit, you're going to need good armor, and going to have to keep replacing it on a regular basis.
