Been a while since I fought without armor. Combat tips?

So its been a bit since I didn't have steel armor to back me up and I never really understood the new combat system. With the reset its learn or die time. At 21 UA 16 str,13(9 due to nettle clothes) agil and 14 con foxes tore through me pretty easy. But I was also just spamming punch...

So whats the noob guide to combat now? Dont have Take Aim yet. Nor any other moves for that matter. Don't have shields etc yet, waiting on leather now, so I just need something to let me have a chance. Would be higher up but health and work have taken a huge chunk of time. I did get a +5 str gilding leaf though so I have more str now.

From my understanding (honestly this new combat system is kind of annoying) you start with a defensive weight equal to your current stance, and as you take hits those hits creates openings which you have to reduce with color coded moves, like if you have blue openings you need to 'heal' it with sidestep, and the likes.

As long as you have openings damage will bleed through your defensive weight, at 100% openings you take 100% damage from the attack.

Because of this its a good idea to get leather armor first, since it will soak all the HHP damage you'll be taking because this new system has effectively zero defenses for new characters as they removed the defenses of the previous combat system.

Honestly, just keep pumping your combat skills, and punch shit to death faster then you can take damage, you will take damage reguardless, even from ants, because this new system sucks unless you have metal armor

Well IIRC Ants ignore armor. I roughly know the combat system but am not proficient in it. Thats my issue.

Spamming punch IS the noob guide to combat now. Foxes seem much nastier than I remember - bats are much easier than foxes. You should be good to take on a few bats.
