Hunting tips?

I'm finding it pretty hard to hunt. MM30 UA30. I can kill boars since they're slow - if they're chasing me I sit in my boat and shoot, if they're fleeing I chase them and punch. It takes forever. They seem too smart to get easily cornered now. What do you all do?

Learn how to actually fight with UA. Forget the boat.

Open with arrow. Fight until it flees, then punch or chop to your heart's content. I don't recommend practicing on ants if you want to learn to fight, they actually do shit tons of damage for no particular reason. you should be good for foxes and bats without too much trouble.

How do you block animals with a boat? I tried that with a Boar and he broke the boat and nocked me.

Take the animal to a peak of shallow water. Get a friend to use 2 boats and put them behind the animal so that the animal has nowhere to move when it goes tranquil. Use opening attack - back off - use opening attack - back off etc repeatedly, then use a damaging attack (like chop etc., a weapon hit) of the same color to damage the beast. When it goes tranquil it won't smash the boats that are blocking it. It only smashes things if they're in its way while it's CHASING, not running away.

Each time you back off, remove openings from yourself, be it with dash or spamming defenses is your choice.

Also get a piece of armor (a single leather chestplate should do the trick) so that 5-10% opening hits won't damage you

the boar will only smash the boat if you are the one putting it and you have combat, as the spot you put the boat from is where the boar will chase you and smash the boat which is in its way, best is to pull to v shaped shallows and have someone without combat place the blocking boat, later on use knarr recipe to block from anywhere

With the size of the areas of shallow water on this map you don't need to block in. Just take the animal far away from the coast that when it runs you can overtake it with your boat and punch it facing back away from the coast so it runs out to the deep water again. Agree that it is virtually impossible to hunt most animals on foot, another alternative that feels a little less like an exploit is riding a horse to chase down the aminal - or person.
