Is there any reason to keep pali gates closed?

For what I understand anyone who enters a claimed gate gets the "visitor" debuff, so...
If i let my gates open, Will anyone be able to steal my stuff?

I think they can aggro you through open gates if they're in direct line of sight of your character, unless this was changed. This can be worked around by building a small fence in front of the gate inside the pali to break the line of sight.

Having gates open might lead to some stuff like bears walking in. Its an unpleasant surprise.
I'd suggest to keep gates shut on all times.

Or the bear aggroes you from the other side of the wall and finds the gate to run through.
