How do I play through proxy?

It's been a while since I played last, but it seems nothing has changed in proxy department.
Have my java proxy settings in place, browser is configured to use proxy and I still get "Connection refused: connect" response.
Any way to fix this, please?

So proxy has not been fixed since ... I have no idea how many years, actually.
The only solution is still to drop all kinds of protection proxy provides instead of using built-in java proxying capabilities.

In case you want a different answer: Please post, apart from what is asked for here, information about the network you have the problem in, type and version of the proxy server and firewalls in that network you try to use (including the active configurations of them) and what actual settings you have on your client. Then one could actually begin to diagnose your problem.

Java is latest build 1.8.0_121-b13
Using official client (default settings I assume? don't have many options to change with that)
No stacktrace to attach
That is about all information that the link requests

TMG (latest version, all updates) as caching proxy
Have that proxy address specified in Java settings and in a browser
Have another third-party java product that uses those settings just fine to connect to outer network

I very much doubt the problem is network-specific. Or do you know of anyone who can actually use java settings to run client through proxy?

If you use the proxy for caching then it should, in theory, accelerate access repeated access through certain protocols. It should not hinder clients from connecting to the internet, that's what firewalls on default gateways are for.

As you didn't state enough information about the rest of your setup to give concrete advise:
disable the proxy for your client and run the game, it does the caching itself.
In case it fails to run then you'll need to fix your network setup.

The game requires access to the internet via TCP and UDP protocols for the communication between the client and the server, the used protocols (apart from resource downloads, which are over HTTP) can't be interpreted by a caching proxy. Add *.havenandheart.com to the list of hosts for which to use no proxy, allow mentioned connections in your firewall.
