Damage distribution

Postby LaserSaysPew » Thu Jan 26, 2017 4:28 pm

Is it actually equal between every armor you're wearing?
An hour ago bear hit me for some amount and I got 25 armor dmg. My 16/10 bronze helm took 6 dmg so it got 22 dmg from that hit while my 5/2 shield still remains with 0 wear so it got 5 or less dmg from the same hit. How come?

Read the armor section here: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=50921

  • We have made some changes to how armor works.
  • Armor used to subtract all hard soak from incoming damage, before distributing the damage over the armor parts to remove the soft soak and deal damage to the armor. This had the effect that one piece of armor would protect not only the player, but also other pieces of armor on him. This has been changed, so that damage is first distributed over the armor parts, which then subtract hard and soft soaks individually.
  • All attacks have been given some amount of armor penetration. The philosophy that we have used is to give more armor penetration to attacks with lower base damages. Unarmed attacks usually have around 30%, and Swords usually around 5%, with axes somewhere inbetween, &c. The game will at some point present this dynamically.

I'm not entirely sure if distribution is random (seem I read that from someone, but could be wrong) or divided up in some balance. I don't have enough experience with the new system yet myself to make an qualitative guesses.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Maybe the damage is divided proportionally to how much soak does a piece of armor add to the whole armor class, and not just divided by the number of armor pieces on you

Not proportional for sure. I also had 40/30 breastplate that didn't take any dmg. If it's hardsoak, then it should've taken 3 times more, 66 dmg. If it's softsoak: 2.5 times, 55 or whole armor: ~2.7times, ~59dmg. Each scenario deals dmg to the breastplate yet it's 0 wear.
