Bough trees. They take forever to reach seeding stage, give decent amounts of wood, and of course yield boughs which are useful for many things. Also quite useful: mulberries - fast seeding for quick q growth & mulberry leaves for silk, and apple trees - worm eaten apple curio & apple pies. Those are the three most important trees, in my opinion.

Also, initially plant more trees than you need. They will spread the forest biome, allowing faster growing trees (disregard if planting on pre-existing forest tiles).

fir : bough
beech : boards
blackthorn : bush for block
mulberry : for silk

then you can add laurel and apple tree

Why laurel?

I'd throw in some fruit trees eventually just for some variety of food/recipes, and not just apple. Same with nuts. Up to you, though.

Add in poppycaps, too, Those are decent curios even at q10. You just need somewhere underground to let them grow up.

If you have enough space and if an idea of owning a knarr is appealing to you, I'd advice to decide on the colors of your future knarr right away and start growing trees just for that.

Same goes for Great Hall, etc. Finding some of the trees in the wild is a huge PITA.

No, but quality matter for gilding.
