Just realized i cant no longer brawl with animals on a shoreline and time their attacks. Action cards now seem to play out simultaneously as one of the fighters make a move. Although combat now seems more real, i must say it practically made it impossible for me to play the game. Since i have always played alone this new combat scheme has crippled my progress who knows how much. Seems like i have to put 3 times more of play time and effort to even manage to kill a fox on my own or tame a small animal.

A sad story, but whatever... can anyone help with tips or perhaps a exploit i can take advantage of? The only thing i can think of right now is raised unarmed and range to the max, hoping i can one shot animals by firing in their faces on shoreline while riding a boat and get fat and armored enough to brawl with small animals and try to tame them on my own. I believe auroch and horses are at least a couple of years out of my reach now.

You will not take damage at 0% opening. Just attack from boat, back up into deep water and clear opening, then attack again, repeat.

I get that damage is done based on a previous weakness builded to said type of attack. Tried to fiddle with the defenses and punches cards to play it safe, but ended up not dealing or receiving any damage at all. Cant seem to weaken the animal unless i take a risk and expose myself. Can you really beat an animal in the early game like this? im talking as early as not even having a claim. If its possible tell me and ill try to master the combat mechanic.

You need some UA (10-20 or so). It is also much more easy if you can get 2+ people to attack the animal since you can build opening to it twice as fast.

With leather pants q10, and ~15 UC/str/agi I took 0 damage at 10% opening from a fox, that was enough for me to kill the animal. Just defence until you have only 10% opening and then punch, back off and repeat

Well thanks for the tips, nevertheless, it seems the game truly requires a lot more play time and effort to get things done on your own, keeping a balanced diet just got real hard for hermits and casuals. On the other hand it seems it got more interesting for villagers and organized veterans.

Once you get a sword an armor you'll leave behind a trail of dead animals. The start of the game is slower now.
If you get lucky with some quests you can raise your UA very quick and beat animals on day 1 again.

Before the server wipe, i managed to get metals and altough i made a sword and armor, boat brawling was just fine by me haha. Never used a sword. Same when i played in legacy.

Bad luck, I found a ton of iron a few days in this world in a cave and now I'm set forever
