Making a torch

OK, so I have discovered tar and along with it the option to create torches and tarsticks, problem is I have no idea how to make them. I have all the required items in my inventory yet when i right-click the barrel of tar, I get the "you do not have all the ingredients" message. Wondering if there is another container with which to hold the tar as thebucket and barrel do not seem to work.

Probably a stupid question but this ius bugging the hell out of me. Would appreciate any advise on what I'm doing wrong.

Can't craft out of a barrel. Put some in a bucket and either carry the bucket or put it in a container that you can craft out of.

Carrying the bucket doesn't work and I don't know of another container that can hold tar. Jars don't hold them.

I didn't realise you could put a bucket in your hand, I was carrying it above my head.

My thoughts exactly. I think he meant he was just holding it on his cursor.

Since you can't put a filled bucket in your backpack, you have to carry it in hand. You can put a filled bucket into any other container, though. I keep a crafting cupboard with buckets filled with whatever it is I'm working with: flour, tar, water, etc etc. It's really quite convenient.

Another tip is you can open multiple containers at once and it counts as one big meta-container. It's not easy to get set up the first time you use it as if you move more than a tiny bit and the other containers can close. There are some images around with people feasting at a table with 8 open cupboards around them.
